Package Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrive by Druk air

The only national carrier. The flight offers you a beautiful view of mountain and landscape. On arrival and after visa formalities you will be received by Y Not Bhutan members. Sight seeing if time permits. Afternoon / evening time at leisure. Overnight Tenziling Resort or similar

Day 02 : Paro Sightseeing

Visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel dzong which still attracts visitors due to the strategic location of the fort. Proceed through the beautiful valley to the watch tower or locally known as Ta-Dzong. It was housed into the National museum in the 1960s by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floor museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. A short walk downhill to the Rinpung Dzong which serves as the administrative center and school for monks. Walk further down crossing the traditional bridge into Paro Town. Return to Tenziling Resort or similar.

Day 03 :

After breakfast drive to the beautiful valley of Haa which has remained secluded until quite recently. Stopovers in Chele La Pass, Bondey town, Dzong Drakka village. After another 30 minute drive from here, on the right is a Monastery clinging to the cliff. This is Kelly Gompa, which houses about 50 nuns living there in seclusion. Slowly ascend about 3990 m to reach Chelela Pass marked with prayers Flags. This is the highest mountain pass accessible by car. If the weather is clear, we can have wonderful views of the mountains to the west which mark the border with Tibet. As we descend further we can see the square yellow roof of the main monastery/fortress, Namgyal Dzong which is now used as a military base. Haa town lies few kms further to the north-west and is really quite attractive with traditional two story shops lined in 2 rows. Visit Lhakhang and Karpo. They now serve as seat for monastic community in Haa. Overnight Haatoe Farmhouse (2955 meters).

Day 04 :

Today we follow an old trading trail that leads to the some Temples and villages to an elevation of 3250m. A light lunch will be served here or we walk back to farm house for the lunch. PM free walk inside the village and step into a house to view the daily life. After, we return for dinner at the farmhouse. Overnight same.

Day 05 : Thimphu s/seeing

After breakfast we shall take the lower road along first the Haa Chhu and after the confluence with the Wang Chhu, along the latter towards the capital at Thimphu, 115kms to the East a drive of about 3-4 hrs. Enroute stop at Dogar Dobji Dzong, a 16th century structure, built by the brother of the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kinley. Legend has it that the statue of the Guru Landrachen housed here, complained when the apostate Tibetan monarch Langdharma tried to smash it with a hammer. This dzong became Bhutan’s first jail in 1976 but has since returned to its monastic origins.

visit the Memorial chorten built in the memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, 15 century Changangkha monastery, Motithang mini zoo to see the rare “Takin” national animal of Bhutan and drive further up for a good view of the Thimphu valley. Evening stroll around Thimphu town. Overnight Hotel River View or similar.

Day 06 :

AM visit the Painting school, National library, Royal goldsmith workshop and Handicraft centers. PM drive 3 hours to Wangduephodrang crossing the Dochula pass 3100 meters. On fine weather you will see the eastern Himalayan ranges including the highest mountain in Bhutan Mt. Gangar Punsum 7520 meters. The drive from the pass is all the way downhill dropping to the lower and warmer valleys of lobesa, and drive 25m to Punakha for over night. Overnight Damchen Resort or similar.

Day 07 :

AM drive 5 minutes to visit the Punakha Dzong which served as an old capital of Bhutan. This remarkable fortress is built between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. Every year during the month of February a procession known as the Punakha Serda takes place to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans. Drive 3 hours to Thimphu for lunch and proceed 1.5 hours to Paro via visiting the oldest building in Bhutan, the Simtokha Dzong. It now serves as a Buddhist university. Overnight Tenziling Resort or similar

Day 08 : Departure

Transfer to airport for departure.
